"I rejoiced with those who said to me, let us go to the house of the Lord." Psalm 122:1
"Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people." Acts 2:46-47
Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) referred to the Temple in Jerusalem as, The House. The Temple was a symbol of God's presence on earth. The followers of God went up to the Temple three times a year to worship. When they came, the city of Jerusalem was filled with throngs of people singing and celebrating. It was an epic event to gather with others, to hear the stories of God's work in their lives, and to be transformed by God's presence.
In the land and culture of the bible, the home was and is a place of hospitality. The focal point of the home was a table where food was served and stories were told. The table was always open to anyone who needed a meal or a place to call home. It was in a home where the first church gathered.
The House will be a place where we share our life stories, and grow to better understand how our story fits into the larger story of God. It will also be a place where we live life together and bless the community around us. It is our dream that the communities in which we live will be transformed and given a foretaste of the Kingdom of God.
We continually experience moments where we are humbled by the power and goodness of Jesus Christ. As we continue on in this work, we find deep joy in hearing the stories of people’s lives and sharing the truth about Jesus in word and deed.
